Ultimately, anything that has a start and end date should show up on the Calendar. This is something on the Core roadmap.

If you want to include the expenses separately or on top of the contract amount for billing, you could also change the contract type to Recurring + Expense on the Projects > General > Details screen.

If the billable expenses are on top of the contract amount, one option is to create a separate phase for this project and log only the expenses to it and bill it along the fixed fee parent project.

Please send this as a feature request then. As of now, we have no other status, except Active, which allows time and expense logging to a project.
