The Contract Analysis and the Project Profitability reports each calculate a root project's contract amount differently when the report is grouped by Root Project.
The Contract Analysis report lets you choose how, using the Show Contract Amount Totals As option under Set Display Options, which can be set to Root Project Amount or Sum of Phases (default), both explained below.
In the Contract Analysis report, the Contract Amount shown on an individual line item (a single row for one project or phase) always follows the same rule, no matter which option is selected: a Standard-type project or phase's row shows its own entered contract amount, and a Main-type project or phase's row shows $0. The Show Contract Amount Totals As option only changes how each root project's totals (its own TOTALS line on the report) and the report's grand total (the GRAND TOTALS line) are calculated, as explained below.
A Main-type project or phase also only appears in the Contract Analysis report at all when it has billed or used amounts posted directly against it. Those amounts still show in its own row's Used and Billed columns and roll up into its root project's totals and the grand total as usual.
The Project Profitability report, on the other hand, has no such setting; its contract amount calculation depends on the root project's type instead, as explained below.
Note: A root project can be either Main or Standard type, though CORE's supported hierarchy expects only Main projects, whether at root or phase level, to have child phases beneath them. A root project can remain Standard even after phases are added beneath it, but CORE then flags it as an unsupported hierarchy and displays a warning banner on the project's detailed view and suggests changing the root's Type to Main to align with the supported hierarchy. Root Project Amount
Using the Root Project Amount option, each root project's totals and the report's grand total are based only on the amount entered directly on the root project itself, regardless of which of its phases the report's filters include. Phase amounts never contribute to these totals.
This works the same way whether the root is Main or Standard type. For a Standard root project, its own row already shows this amount (per the general rule above), so the row, the totals, and the grand total all show the same figure. For a Main root project, its own row still shows $0 (per that same general rule), while the totals and grand total show the root's own entered amount.

Sum of Phases
Using the Sum of Phases option, a Standard root project's totals and the report's grand total add the root's own entered contract amount to all of its Standard phases that match the report's filters. For a Main root project, its own entered amount is never added to these totals; only its matching Standard phases are summed. As with any Main-type project or phase, a Main root also only shows up in the report at all when it has billed or used amounts posted directly against it.
This combined figure only ever appears in the totals and grand total, never on the root project's own row. Even for a Standard root project, its own row continues to show only its own entered amount, per the general rule above, not the combined total with its phases.
Which phases count as matching is based on the report's filters (such as Project Status), not on whether phase rows are visually hidden with the Hide Phases display option.

Project Profitability
The Project Profitability report has no Show Contract Amount Totals As setting; its contract amount calculation depends on the root project's type. For a Main root project, its own row shows $0, the same as in the Contract Analysis report, while its totals and grand total reflect only its own entered amount, with no phases included, similar to the totals and grand total under the Root Project Amount option in the Contract Analysis report. For a Standard root project, its own row shows only its own entered amount, while its totals and grand total reflect its own amount plus all of its standard phases, similar to the totals and grand total under the Sum of Phases option in the Contract Analysis report.
