Is there a way to change the term of retainer invoices?

Yes, you can change a project’s billing terms under the General > Billing Options tab in the Projects screen. However, this means that the future invoices will also have the same due terms. A work-around for this is to set the billing terms to 'Due Upon Receipt', process your retainer invoice, and then change the billing terms back to what they were before.
